Yeah well, by the time I was 10, my dad had already driven me to the woods and dumped me overnight, I had been shooting for a while, and I would regularly get up at 4 AM and pedal my Opie Taylor 3-4 miles and be fishing by dawn. Nobody worried if I was going to get hurt or even buttfucked, I was expected to take care of myself.

The pussification of the American male didn't really start until the 90s or later.

"You asshole, his feet are frozen!" My Mom said that many times to my dad after a day of hiking Rocky Fork creek in Ohio in the winter to check our rabbit traps about 1965. That's where I gained my love of the outdoors. I never suffered, I loved it! There were two story ice cycles coming from the cliffs my dad called the valley of the teeth. I think I have a B&W pic from our Brownie.
I could wax poetic all night about life in rural Ohio, Kansas, Missouri. Maybe when I retire, but I'll still never catch up to Kenny.

This is too true. Also, most under 25 have no concept of courtesy or manners. Not so my boy. He is almost 12, has his own pistol and rifle, great shot, has his own bow, shoots all 3, plus my cross bow. Has his first knife, and might get a fixed blade for his b-day. He opens doors for women, offers his seat, helps his momma clean and carry stuff. Looks out for her, keeps his situational awareness when he is away from the house. Plays basket ball, sleep overs with friends, has gone fishing, this year will go on his first hunt. When I was his age, I was riding herd and fences, but he is being raised in sub-urban rather than ranch. He will NOT be a victim or a cull. If it sounds like bragging, it is. I am proud of that boy, and his sisters as well. They grew up into fine young women who don't need a man but want to be an equal partner in everything with a Man.
