I find there's something soothing about self-reliance, about knowing that I will be judged as me, not as who I hang around with or associate with.
It's to the degree that the idea of having somebody I CAN depend on frankly terrifies me.
I would prefer to face an enemy alone than to face them with an entire army at my back. I feel more alive, and the times I do my best work are when I don't have anything to catch me if I fall.
Volfram, for women, we're raised to believe we're nothing without a man. And then when we think we've found one, we turn around to lean on him and he's gone. It's better to foster a mindset that you're better off alone, because when shit hits the fan, you aren't floundering looking for Prince Charming.
Angel, I have to echo Bob's comment. You must have had some bad luck with men. A real Man stand behind/beside/in front of his woman as the need arises. I have two daughters, and I have tried to teach them to be self-reliant. They can shoot, cook, change a tire, use anything from an axe to a computer. However, I have also told them that no one gets through life by themselves. They both have good guys now, that help when needed, and get the hell out of the way when they have to. But, I think the lion can stand for anyone. Family, friends, III's, anyone that will have your back when the jackals come. You have more than what you think, both in you and behind you.
Damn straight!!

ReplyDeleteIf there's someone back there, fine. I'm just not going to rely on them to still be there when SHTF.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the way the media portrays women, romance, and relationships is a bunch of garbage.
ReplyDeleteI was always of the idea that a woman should be worth something on her own before she's worthy of looking for a man.
And the same is true of a man.
You did not answer my questions.

I didn't think it was necessay, Bob. Basically, yes I have crappy luck with men, no it's not limited to Texas men.
