    The M109G 155mm self-propelled howitzer is a real thing, and might be a possibility.

    However, the accompanying sound suppressor, named the “Schalldampfer” sadly has been scrapped, and is no longer a real thing. It was used at the German's Bundeswehr technical center for wepons and ammunition at Meppen for test firing at artillery ranges on the fringes of urban areas and married officer quarters with thin walls.

  6. Like Ian said, it was real. The Germans live in a densely populated country so they have to improvise. The German army and air force are regular visitors to Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta for maneuvers in open country.
