It looks so natural with a living ape hanging on them. The only proto-human I ever knew who used them was an Italian named Angelo! BUT, I think they might have been good therapy for Richard III's hump back which might have allowed him to survive Bosworth Field. Ape hangers on a fully armored war steed-- it almost eludes my imagination!
