I had donkeys and mules while I lived in Nevada and Alabama, I never had a problem with strays and feral dogs. My donks and Mule would chase them down, grab them and shake them till their necks snapped and then stomp and kick on them. It was a most gruesome sight and clean up. My goats were protected though, never had to worry about them.
