Wonder if they did Pearl Necklace?
"A very young Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard in a photo for a Texas prom roundabout 1970 or 1971. This is the earliest known picture of the band in its current lineup, and one of the last of Reverend Billy without a beard and sunglasses."
Wow! What year was this?
ReplyDeleteI just realized that I'm really, really old. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI realize that nearly every morning.
ReplyDelete"Once you're over 50, if you get up in the morning and nothing hurts, it means you're dead."
Wind River Ranger,
ReplyDeleteThe text below the picture says "roundabout 1970 or 1971", so it' was probably sometime in the early-70's.
;-)
Saw ZZ for the first time back in '81 on their "El Loco" tour, before they went all electronic synthesizer and whatnot on Eliminator and subsequent albums. Saw 'em last year as part of another multi-band concert and they STILL kicked ass.
Spot on, Chris. I'm finding out more and more, with each passing day, why old guys are usually grumpy and surly--- everything hurts.
ReplyDeleteEverything hurts, and we just don't give a fuck. Google 'old man strength'. Says it all.
DeleteSomehow I missed the date in the caption - must be an old guy thing.
ReplyDeleteMy ex-sister-in-law went to high school with Jimmy Vaughn. He and friends (but not Stevie Ray) would play at their dances.
A picture of the band at the Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School prom in Orange made the rounds three years back over on Reddit. It’s probably the closest picture one will find of the band when it was just a few months old.
ReplyDeleteGibbons told the Texas Monthly’s Andy Langer in 2012 everything he remembered about the photo, confirming that it was from May 1970. He says it was “yearbook club error” that had them billed as “Zee Zee Top” in the photo.
