there are so few people who are gruntled, that the word has been abandoned.....(besides, if you were to say, "I am gruntled", people will say, "Have you tried Tylenol?")
There are 2 DJs from Milwaukee, WI named Bob and Brian, (Bob Madden and Brian Nelson I think.) I think the station was called Laser103. They used this often, at least often enough that 20+ years later I still remember them using it. I hope somewhere Brians thought on the Electric chair are recorded for posterity... (He was against the Chair, he wanted a bench and the Criminals hold hands...)
I use gruntled all the time just to get people to give me an askance glance. I think, as a word, it is pulchritudinous. Thank you for helping me promote this under used word!
I've been using that word for decades.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I thought it wasn't a word, it just made me laugh.
I've even asked why there was no such word as 'gruntled'.
Fettled is another good one.
ReplyDeleteWord nerds!
ReplyDeleteI love it!

Because it came from serfs using it to describe happy pigs.
