Back in the 80s, when I was a fresh-faced 18-year-old freshman on the campus of WTAMU, I carried concealed. A little .38 S&W given to me by a father who loved me and wanted me to be safe. I underwent extensive training to be able to carry that weapon safely and responsibly; and not one day or night that I was on that campus, was I unarmed and defenseless. Was it "legal"? No. Was it my right as a human being and American citizen? Damn skippy.
As Poppy taught me, better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. And I never regretted the decision.
May the souls of those lost today in Oregon find peace beyond this world. May the rest of us prepare for the worst.

Your dad was a good man.
No one, and no words on a paper, have the right, or the ability to remove your right to defend yourself. Your Poppy is right. You CAN take your chances with a court if you are still alive. If not it's the undertaker.
I hate the democrat party with a white hot anger for their never ending quest to make us defenseless slaves. Over my dead body assholes.
I was a college freshman in 79. My Grandpa gave me his Colt 32 Police Positive that I carried in a fanny pack back when they were fashionable. When I turned 21 he carried me to the probate judge to get my CCW. My daughter has that Colt now.
some laws are older than any nation......
vaquero viejo
Just to let you know, it is legal for CCW holders to carry in schools in Oregon (unless you are a teacher, that can and has gotten people fired). I carry my 10mm everywhere and when I go into my daughter's school I make sure to take a spare mag or two. University of Oregon has already been sued, and lost, for trying to ban CCW holders from carrying on campus. Oregon State University's Republican chapter has an AR15 raffle every year on campus.
Weaselzippers is reporting that the shooter was asking people for their religious affiliation and if they answered Christian they were shot in the head.
Sorry for the poor paragraph structure. I have been busting ass all day trying to finish up work and get ready to take my 13 year old daughter for her first hunting trip where she has tags.
Couple of years ago when the Democrats in Colorado were trying to ban concealed carry on school campuses(right before the recalls, you may remember), I was talking to my sister and I encouraged her to carry a concealed weapon even if it was illegal, telling her it was better be alive and in jail than dead.
just so you know, I am not a crying type. But as I was listening to late night talk last night about the shooting, I found myself tearing up. It surprised me. I just felt the pain of the families and the friends of those lost, bearing down on myself, and then rage at the intolerance of those who keep others from protecting themselves.
I admit that I was not a handgun owner. Until the day after Obama was elected president for the first time, I was never a member of the NRA. I was politically informed but not active. Now, it seems like not only prep, but also working at least locally and at the state level to try and keep things from going south too fast. I know many may disagree, and that's okay, that is just my opinion and I know all the arguments against.
I get kidneys stones. A lot. One time in the hospital for yet another surgery, a nurse making small talk said, I see you had an NRA hat, you must be a big supporter of the 2nd amendment. I didn't even hesitate I just said " I am a huge supporter of the entire bill of rights".
I think she was a libertarian or something, because you could tell how pleased she was at that answer. I could not tell much after that because the next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. They can't cure cancer with 100% success yet, but they sure do have some really special drugs.
I know the left will be fighting for a big gun ban again. I don't expect much, but I will be going to the sporting goods store to pick up 200 or 300 rounds of 9mm, depending on price. That will give me almost 1000 rounds. I might pick up some 12 ga. 00 buck shot too if the price is good. Just to build my stores a little.
I feel so far behind the curve compared to all of you that have been doing this all your lives. But I do learn a lot from you. I share in the sadness that we all feel as human beings for the evil that walks daily among us, but I also share in the spirit of courage that we get from knowing that we walk in the footsteps of men who started this nation with a dream of liberty and a pledge to each other. It sounds cliché, but it is an honor for me to be allowed to post here and to learn, from everyone, here and at wirecutters, patriots all.
thank you and may God Bless our Nation
Ace Rimmer:
Pigpen51, try looking at luckygunner.com, they usually have good prices.
I feel much the same as you!
thanks ace. i have also used cheaper than dirt sometimes. i will be checking both today
I also get some from Midway, they actually keep stuff in stock.
Pigpen 51, we all have our challenges...I live in the extremely gun averse state of Maryland... For now anyway. Just work on it every chance you get... Just like prepping, and soon enough, you will have plenty...
As I posted on Kenny's site, I had just come out of camping for a week in the national forest, where there is no communication but smoke signals (which are routinely garbled by forest fires). When I turned on my radio for the first time, all I got was another "senseless gun violence incident" screaming at me, so I turned off the radio and continued on. I have become inured to the constant attacks by those who would deny me my liberty, and will no longer listen to or even acknowledge their moronic diatribes.
Be safe.
Took my wife to Chinese dinner last night. Naturally, we talked about the shooting and the furor it was going to create. When I cracked open my fortune cookie I read "Pray for the best but prepare for the worst."
The east way to end up with a pile of ammo is but a box to shoot and a box to put up. I started that a few years ago and even after I started reloading I've kept it up.
