We've been "Clean Eating Paleo" for the last two weeks, since after Christmas holiday shame set in. I have to admit, I'm feeling stronger physically, clearer mentally, and lighter. In other words, capable of ripping the head off a grown man for a bag of cheeseburgers and fries. I'm almost to the point of being willing to do horrible, dark things, things that would make angels weep, for a package of Twinkies.
God help me and those I love.

Paleo gets better as the weeks go along. Hang in there.

So how is that different from pre paleo?
80/20 seems to work for a lot of people. As long as you make sure that the 20% of Twinkies, etc, doesn't start creeping up to 25%, 30% ...
I know that going high-protein, low carb made me effortlessly lose about 25 pounds. I wasn't even going for weight loss, but rather blood sugar management. I was able to stop one of my diabetes pills after about 9 months low carb, and I haven't had to go back to it yet.
To be honest, it's not the sugar I miss as much as it is the bread. I miss warm bread, sandwiches, toast, melt in your mouth dinner rolls. Mmmmmmm....
The wife just bought a box of Hostess Snowballs. Does that help?
The wife made homemade foccia bread today by hand and I pre-made french toast for tommorrows back to school breakfast.

I had to look up "Clean Eating Paleo", is the rest of the family doing that too?
The problem I have with the whole Paleo thing is how difficult it is to find a brontosaurus these days. And have you ever tried to skin and cook a mammoth in just one hour during your lunch at work? No wonder those cavemen were so skinny! ...or were they just drawn that way?
I'll second naleta for reasons. Coulda lost a few, but didn't need to do a ton. 15 lbs came off without even changing activity levels, though I am active for a living. Heart disease and diabetes run in the family. Let yourself cheat now and again, but yeah, don't let it creep up. As for Kenny, beans and rice are still good, just cut back on the rice and add meat. As for the burger, swap the fries with onion rings. Potatoes are on the bad list.
I have had to cut out carbohydrates after being diagnosed with diabetes. I agree that bread was the hardest thing to give up. Homemade sourdough bread, made with the family sourdough starter, still hot out of the oven, with butter melting on it... sob.
Be strong. I've lost 80 pounds in the last 8 months, and have not needed to take metformin for the last six, my fasting blood sugar sits at 80. I refuse to go the way of my father and his brother, in wheelchairs, going blind.
I could go for a bacon cheeseburger. Maybe I should.
Go watch the 2015 episode of Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food. You don't have to starve yourself or even deprive yourself. All you need is a little knowledge (you can't get that from govt sources) and a little discipline.
Want to make a big change? Use a smaller plate to eat from. A salad plate is ideal. Step it up by eating s l o w e r. You'll notice a difference right away even eating the same junk.
Want to make a huge change? Do the same as above but only eat fresh whole foods like meat, veggies and fruit. Prepare it as richly as you want and eat less of it more slowly.
I haven't changed a damn thing about WHAT I eat but I eat more slowly and as a consequence I eat less. It helps that I hate most processed/prepared foods because they taste like chemicals to me. I can use raw ingredients to make my own lasagna or even ice cream which tastes better than store bought. Over the last three months I've lost 18 lbs simply by eating slowly.
I meant to add that you should watch the Truth About Sugar by Dr. Lustig. You'll never want to eat another gram of high fructose corn sugar again. Sugar is still ok to eat in moderation.
You can watch the latest In Defense of Food video on PBS website right now for free but only until 1-28-16. Lustig's video is on youtube.
had a buddy do the Adkins Diet....asked him how it was going...he said "by the 11th day I would kill my own mother for a biscuit!".....
