True Angel story. My parents gave me a very nice set of luggage when I graduated with my Master's degree. It was already packed.

My parents rented out my room to an exchange student when I was off at college ... without telling me, and without removing my personal and private possessions.
She looked me up to thank me ... that got embarrassing fast.
On my 18th birthday I was given a set of luggage, $500 in cash and a one way plane ticket to the opposite side of the country.
A decade ago -the last time we spoke- my mom tried to justify it on the basis that she wanted to explore relationships with men other than my dad and figured if I still lived at home I would be judgemental...

I was such a good kid that my parents wanted me to come back! No way.
When each of my sons turned eighteen, I made them a plaque with a broken plate, a rolled-up fork and a newspaper ad advertising their room for rent.

Pops woke me up on my 18th, wished me a happy birthday and then told me to either have a job or be moved out by the time he got home.
