Just got through voting

The candidates were standard fare, especially in Texas. The locals were mostly unopposed incumbents, and you know the mess of Republican presidential candidates. What I found interesting were the Texas Ballot Measures.

  1. Texas should replace the property tax system with an alternative other than an income tax and require voter approval to increase the overall tax burden.
  2. Texas cities and counties should be required to comply with federal immigration laws or be penalized by loss of state funds.
  3. Texas should prohibit governmental entities from collecting dues for labor unions through deductions from public employee paychecks.
  4. Texas and its citizens should strongly assert 10th Amendment rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution which states "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the People."
You think Texas is getting sick and tired of  DC's shit?

Angel, when I saw those on the ballot I thought the same thing. Texas may be a Republic again in our lifetimes.

Gov. Abbott has been a breath of fresh air. Does not appear to want to play nice with the 'feel good - gimme your stuff' crowd, seems very independent freedom minded.

I liked Perry's position on gun control (shot a coyote while jogging rumor has it) and was pictured shooting an AR-15 "long rifle" :^). But his position on the Trans Texas Corridor pissed me off so I stopped voting for the dude.

Vote you mothereffers ! :^)

The only one of those I didn't vote "yes" for was number one, simply because I don't know what they'd pull from their orifices, and my property taxes are reasonably low. If they'd actually proposed anything to replace the property tax anywhere, I'd like to see it.

Right Jason; there's no need to write 'em a blank check.

Jason, My property taxes are high, but I didn't vote for #1 for the same reason as you.
