Volfram: The Mad Engineer

Yesterday I posted a picture of seriously bent physics; or so I thought. What boggled my mind became a challenge to Volfram, and he set about proving he could solve the problem. With pictures.

I present to you today's Science Experiment by Volfram:

Picture 01: experimental implements.
Two novelty Coke glasses purchased at the Dollar store,
1 ordinary deck of playing cards.

Picture 2: Fill both glasses with some sort of liquid beverage.

Picture 3: Who remembers this trick?
Shortly after picture 3 was taken, the card fell off the glass,
dumping mystery liquid(water) all over everything.
Cards were replaced with cardboard squares cut out of a
toaster strudel box for the remainder of the experiment.

Picture 4: place glass with card over glass without card, carefully slide card out of glasses.

Now, time to test FIXING this issue!

Option #1: grasp both glasses firmly.  I advise putting one hand over the gap between the mouths of the glasses.  Keeping the glasses pressed firmly but gently together, move them over to the sink.  Or at least away from the linen tablecloths.  The same effect that keeps the card stuck on the glass in picture 3 will prevent the glasses from leaking.

Option #2: carefully slide one glass over the other just enough to wedge a card under it.  Slide card carefully between both glasses, as seen in picture 5.

Picture 5: Fixing what went wrong.

Once the card is between the glasses, you can lift up the card and the top glass and place it right-side up again, as in Picture 6.  Be careful here.  If the card bends downards, it will start leaking water.  Pour a little from the full glass into the other to balance them out, and laugh at the prankster.
I advise using Option #1 to move the glasses to a safe location before implementing option #2.
Option #3: I found this option to be the best for getting water all over absolutely everything.  Turn the pile sideways and hold it in your hand so that an equal amount of liquid is in both glasses.  Slide a card between the two sideways glasses.  Gaze on in despair as both glasses empty themselves around the card.

Most reliable: Option #1
Showoff award: Option #2
Failure award: Option #3

Try this at home, kids!

And this is probably WAY before Volfram's time...

Fun fact: That song was recorded the same year I was born.

Fun fact: that song was recorded when I was much much older than you.

You could always freeze one and place it over the other and wait for it to melt! Same effect. LOL also less messy.

My Dad taught me that trick 50 years ago. That's why I is the way I is, and that's why my sons are the way they are! Much to the chagrin of many, including their momma.

Thank you for being older than Volfram with me, Angel eyes.

And I'm spotting you a few years.
Not that you'd notice, ahem.

That song was released the year I started high school. Never seen the movie or (to my knowledge) heard the song, but I've always been more of a Bach guy. So I guess I'm older than all of you :P
