Ouch

I've had a free-floating bone chip in my shoulder for the last few years from a prior injury that wasn't competently handled at the time. A couple of times an abscess has formed around it, and me being a serious doctor weenie, I'd deal with it myself. Until now.

About 10 days ago, an abscess started forming in the same spot, back of my right shoulder, and just kept growing and growing. (Yeah, this is doing wonders for my legendary sex appeal). At about 4 inches across and so deep my arm started going numb, I broke and went in to see Dr. Janet today. After hitting me on the head with my medical chart, she sat me down and started poking it with a pin and squeezing. The pain was a 15 on a scale of 1 to 10. I started sweating, nausea, little black dots floating in my vision, and nothing was coming out. I ended up on the table  face down while she numbed the top skin, cut an incision and started vacuuming this thick, red yuck out of my shoulder. And eventually the bone shard was pulled out. I'm not sure, but I think I passed out a couple of times. She packed about 400 yards of gauze in the wound around a drain and bandaged it, gave me pain meds and sent me home.

I've been in and out all day, flying the friendly skies of hydrocodone. I've got to go back Friday to have it unpacked and stapled shut. So that's the story of my day. This week has been really weird, can't wait to see what tomorrow brings.

I am sorry to hear you are in pain. My wife is still hurting from torn rotator cuff surgery. I don't have any first hand knowledge, but I have heard that Norco work better when washed down with a couple of beers. just kidding. stay down on your couch and do what the doc says, and get some rest.

Hope it heals ok. Enjoy the drugs and keep the pain down. And Dr. Janet should know hitting you with your chart doesn't work. Or at least it hasn't yet.
Get well soon.

Yikes. I have a left shoulder that met the door post of a car when it ran into my motorcycle about 8 years ago, but it's getting better, but now my right rotator cuff slips out fairly easy all of a sudden, and yesterday took about 5 hours to get back into place. I think that happened in high school wrestling from an abusive coach demonstrating a move over and over again. Just now my muscle tone is going south due to getting old, and my muscles just don't keep it in place very well anymore.

What you're describing is pretty ugly. I hope they got all of the frag out, and it doesn't bother you anymore. i'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I've seen your pic.

Angel looks like a soccer mom - hence they assume she needs meds to overcome pain.

You look like you sew up your own injuries to keep them off the radar. You also look like a stick to bite and avshot of whiskey are all you need for major surgery.

Bummer, Angel!

Hope it heals well, and soon.

Vicodin does absolutely NOTHING to me.

It's like taking two aspirin.....

Ouch! Take it easy and don't be a little martyr about getting better. Lots of self inflicted T.L.C. Love your posts, keep up the good work when you feel like it.

Thank you all so much! Yeah, I don't do painkillers that much, I took Tylenol to handle an emergency c-section after Baby Queen ruptured my uterus. Anything stronger sends me flying.

And wc, maybe that's why they laugh at you? You're always asking for painkillers any time you have a boo boo.

Rick says "sorry to hear that, hope you will feel better soon."

Nurse Rick Says "what the fuck is wrong with you, do you want to die or loose your fucking arm. Who the fuck will take care of your kids while your in the hospital getting IV antibiotics. I hope it leaves a big scar to remind you to take care of that shit soon as it appears. so do you have any questions." "NO" well then get the fuck out of here, and drink lots of water with that Norco or you wont shit for a week, have a nice day".

women are just tough...pain threshold so high I can't see the top...if it was up to men to have the babies, the species would die out.....
