Blast from the past

I can remember mom doing this to my brother's shirts, but for him it was ruffles made from quilting scraps. It was very, very effective. But she also had a second reason for doing it. His weight never fluctuated, but he was always growing up. A couple inches added to the bottom of his shirts could buy another year before he completely outgrew them. She did the same to our pants when the hems couldn't be let out any more. I would get cute ruffles around the legs, but she'd try to match fabric for Bubba's pants.

Wow! Does that ever bring back memories! My Mom did the same thing to my dresses and sweaters. My brother had 'extenders' on all of his shirts, too.

If Hanes would sew ruffles on the waistbands of their jockey shorts, maybe young black men would keep their pants up.

My mom would just rub a chocolate bar on the back of my shirttail so it looked like a skidmark.
Cheaper, easier and just as effective.

And it would really fuck with the other kids when you sucked on the smear.

Evidently no one else owned a sharp pocketknife.
