I remember this

This was how both of my grandmas planted their gardens. I asked why, once. Once was all it took to get the answer. "Because that's how it's done."

Indians did it like that because the beans would have the cornstalks to climb on.

The time I tried that, the beans grew so crazily, they tore down the corn.

Exactly. Most southeastern tribes, after reaching the agricultural stage, grew the bulk of their food just like this. These three vegetables provided an amazing amount of vitamins and minerals. They were refereed to as "the three sisters" and I love all three of them! LOL
