Rants, Raves and Recipes from the Edge of Sanity
This is what happens IF one doesn't buy American.ps. If the grinder vibrates throw the disc & always test a new disk in a safe direction.
Whenever I turn on a grinding wheel I stand off to the side. I had people make fun of me when I did that until the time the wheel came apart as it was spinning up.....
I actually have had a similar thing to happen to me. Destroyed a set of lgasses, but I can see, thanks to the lenses taking the blow. But I still have a piece of carborundum in the bone below my eye.
That's why I never drink and grind.
bullet proof glass......just like i used to have in my teller window at the motorbank..vaquero viejo
Losing an eye cuts your girl-watching (or guy-watching) down fifty percent.(How's that for incentive to wear those safety glasses?)
With grinders (and that looks to be a cutoff wheel), full face protection is best. Lucky that it hit the glasses, if it had gotten the cheek, lots of stitches, lots of emergency room, lots of recovery time. Use full-face protection when using cutoff wheels.
I've had more than one cut-off wheel blow apart on me.
I have have molten steel splash in the face and burn nearly all the way through my safety glasses. I watched it until it faded from bright to dark. Scary shit. No burns on my face, it bounces off when you are sweating.
