Looks basically like the motorized Dixie Double Seamers that we have in the lab at work. I'd need a few more pictures at different angles to figure it out. Is there a lever at the bottom near the clamp to raise the can and lock it in position against the top rollers? If so, then try raising the can and lid up, then pulling what looks like the locking lever to engage the rollers. Then turn the hand crank just like you do with a can opener. Hope this helps out.
Holy @#$% I just looked up hand can sealers for sale. They are basically similar to the design of the one that you have, but the new ones that I saw cost from $500+ dollars to $800. I didn't even know that they made hand crank ones. I may have to come up with an excuse to order a couple for our lab to develop new "test methods" for our can end exteriors. End exteriors just happens to be one of my projects.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to add: You only paid $10 for it, Dave? You lucky bastard.
I'm going to pop in here, taminator, and say hey to ya. You know, just so you don't look like you're talking to yourself. But good detective work there.
I'm used to talking to myself. Everyone at work knows not to even make eye contact with me. They also warn all the newbies and interns to give me a very wide berth.
I searched "Using a can sealer" and there are a couple of videos that might be helpful.I don't know if this is what Dave is asking for but I always try to help.Even if my help is no help at all I still do it.

I have my grandfathers canner. He used it a lot for 45 years, and I have been using it for about 20 years. Still works great. I use it to can meat and fish. Might have canned some cash also. You made a great find. Congratulations!
