It's been my experience that when you share wisdom with someone and they label you a wiseass, it's because they recognize the truth of what you're saying and they're pissed they didn't come to the same conclusion first.
I always tell my kids and grandkids that I don't give them advise because I am smarter than them but that I have done a lot more stupid shit that them.

Every time I was called a smartass as a youth, I responded with "it's better than being a dumbass", that's usually when the fight started.
