Mmmmm-maters

If you want 'em, come and get 'em. I'm done canning for the season, I've got 80 on my countertop and 20 more ripening and 100s more green. I am heartily sick of maters.

How many can you count?

Got any soup kitchens or food banks nearby? You could donate the ones you don't want/need... Wish I lived closer !!!

I never want to see another tomato again. I just turned about 20 lbs of them into tomato paste and still have two freezers full that need to be peeled, pureed, and cooked down into sauce......................

I wish I was close enough. I'd love to have some fried green maters.

These work. They are easy to use and quick too.

Living in the country, it's easy for us to leave baskets of veggies on the counter at the Post Office. I've made some good scores in there myself. People love lemon cukes and maters and radishes.

My tomatoes didn't do well at all this year. However, I have cucumbers and cucumbers and cucumbers. Want to trade? We're only about 8 hours (more or less) away from each other.

Slice them about 1/4-3/8" thick, lightly dust them with salt, pepper and garlic powder and dehydrate them. Tomato chips. You're welcome.

Dad put in a few extra tomato plants one year "'cause those damn squirrels and jays" would get into them.
Well, that year was a bumper crop and the squirrels and jays found someplace else to raid.
We had fresh tomato up to the first freeze in October.
Fried tomatoes for breakfast.
Tomato sam'iches for lunch.
Tomato surprise for dinner ... for 3 months.
Mom put up tomato paste, sauce, whole tomatoes ...
That winter we had more tomato based meals than Naples.

I got like 12 tomatoes this year. I planted an heirloom and an Early Girl and have gotten maybe 3 off of it.
Yeah, it looks like I'm as poor a gardener as I am a hunter.

Whoa. I shouldn't comment while 'relaxed' huh? Even I can't figure out what I was trying to say.
