It can make man-spreading a bit of an eye opener. Google kilt exposure queen. Kilt wearers I have talked to claim that is a great way of getting to know ladies well, really well.
Jewish clothing in Biblical times was pants for the women and robes for the men. The reason for the switch though is modern culture, a gal can run faster with her dress up then a guy can with his pants down. Learned that the hard way, got caught every time.
wear kilts, play ( and enjoy) bagpipes, eat haggis, and drink scotch whisky..... as my father-in-law (one damn tough cowhand) would say "they are good enough for the girls I go with".....
Scots, the people who invented the butter knife by grinding the point to a round end and dulling the edge to prevent mayhem at the table. They make bloody good whiskey though.
I had read somewhere that the kilt was developed so that when kneeling to make a fire, pants fabric would get wet from resting on ground, vs. the bare knee. No idea if that is true or not but it does make sense.

Dangly bits are more likely to freeze off.

who knows what the origin is, but they're really comfortable. Not sure I'd want to wade through deep snow wearing one though.
