Yes, I love my Kindle, portable, sleek, and discreet; where my naughtiest BDSM novels nestle innocently next to my Vietnam War histories and a couple of sadly ignored inspirational "Know you, be you, love you" books. But THIS is what makes my heart beat a little faster. To walk in and drink with my eyes the richness of the leather bindings, inhale the smell of good paper and ink, and feel the weight of so many words woven into worlds settle around my shoulders, urging me into the nearest overstuffed leather chair. Legs draped over an arm as I settle into the corner, glasses perched on my nose, I slip from the pain of this reality into any world I desire. This is my haven.

Amen Sister....I think if more people would be able to sit down and enjoy a good book no matter what their preference was then there would be less violence and sadness in this world...If you love to read then you are able to discern and understand where facts, reason, logic and knowledge play out in everyday life...I think that is why this country is going downhill because nobody reads anymore....

Amen. Plus, when you fall asleep with a book on your chest, it doesn't fast forward through 20 pages. Or is that just me with the Kindle?
Now I don't feel so alone being a book lover. Hundreds stacked up. I have been reading books since I was five. Thru books I have been able to visit all the far away lands. Plus the National Geographics educated me in ways that are better left untold. :-)

I almost always buy used books. I enjoy the yellowed pages and occasional handwriting or signatures I find inside. Kind of an adventure aside from the story. Sort of a someone else was here thing.
rpm, you're such a romantic. I think most book lovers are true lovers. They see value in substance and know not to judge by appearances.
I have 5 series that I've collected every title and refuse to let them go. But other books make their way here from the Buffalo Book Store for a short visit before going back. There are several books I've had to replace several times as the pages fall out or the bindings tear.

I too have been reading since I was a tiny tot, and while I enjoy what others might put in the margins, I hold them more sacred and would never do it my self.

My books are trying to crowd me out of my little shack. Part of the reason I'm building a bigger place is to have a proper book shelf.

I think a library is one of freedoms best assets and if they accomplish taking our guns they will be next to go...Dictators don't like their subjects to be well informed...
I agree lineman, that's why I'm saving as many hard copies of historical speeches, documents, writings, etc. of our Founding Fathers as I can. That's a big part of my prepping.
Amen on that I try and pick up anything on making parts of machines they used back when the first machines were made...Anything that would be of value if we had to start over from scratch...Antique stores are great for finding treasures like that...
I have found some absolute treasures at garage and estate sales. Old history and grammar books, back when education was for preparation. Old books on planting, canning, farm and ranch repair, animal husbandry, etc.
I grew up on a farm/ranch so I have all that from growing up so I search for stuff I'm lost at doing...
I'm always amazed at how much common sense has been lost in the last 2-3 generations. Even my own. I had to explain to a fellow teacher (biology no less) how chicken eggs get fertilized. "When a mommy chicken and a daddy Rooster love each other very much..."
Have you ever saw the test they had to pass to graduate from eighth grade back then...I would say 90% of college graduates wouldn't be able to pass it..
Sad and people like that are still allowed to vote....
I have, and I should dig that up and post it. Or the citizenship exam that new Americans have to pass. That is harder than most college history courses.
Nothing compares to real smut magazines as compared to online porn as well. Cept for the pages sticking.
