I'm gonna betcha that it was some interns doing the poking, not the scientists getting our tax dollars for this. (You don't really believe that some private group would pay for this, do you?)
Now, how do I get signed up to try this study on elected officials?
We really need to get the PETA pukes to try this on leopards. And use politicians as interns.
