Boehner is resigning the end of October

A spokesperson for Boehner’s office told the Daily Advocate:
“Speaker Boehner believes that the first job of any Speaker is to protect this institution and, as we saw yesterday with the Holy Father, it is the one thing that unites and inspires us all.”
“The Speaker’s plan was to serve only through the end of last year. Leader Cantor’s loss in his primary changed that calculation.”
“The Speaker believes putting members through prolonged leadership turmoil would do irreparable damage to the institution.”
“He is proud of what this majority has accomplished, and his Speakership, but for the good of the RepublicanConference and the institution, he will resign the Speakership and his seat in Congress, effective October 30.”

"irreparable damage". That horse has been out of the barn for quite a while.

I hope that the promise of the cushy job he's been promised by the lobbyists is exactly the same kind of promise that the GOP candidates gave us the last few election cycles.
So HE can feel what its like to be screwed over with "campaign promises".

Well at least he recognizes that his leadership has been a turmoil.

Ace of Spades has some good thoughts on this. Not just Boner, but the whole damned lot of the RINO "leadership" needs to go. If you do a purge, do it right or you just benefit the scumbags waiting in the wings. Then again, doesn't matter a bit to me, as I've written off the Repubs at the federal level. No money, no votes, no knocking on doors. Eff em. I got tired of playing Charlie Brown to their Lucy before the primaries last year. My rep (Tx 19) announced on Monday he was done after this term, and he'd hitched his wagon to Boner. I'm guessing he knew something was in the wind. Again, eff em. With a rusty cactus sideways.

Somebody knows something - something that the leadership doesn't want to become public knowledge until they have cut and run.

I would bet on it.

I am surprised that they let him go so easily.

If you think J Edgar Hoover's files were a potent political tool, imagine what kinds of information is in the intelligence community's files from 20 years of internet monitoring.
On EVERY. SINGLE. POLITICIAN. The only ones that will be allowed to take the position are
those on whom they already have damning intel.
