Interesting. I respect books. There's a big Bookworm store within walking distance I love to browse through on the weekends. I have a very near and dear reading companion who maintains that it's ok to dog ear pages as long as you own the book. Aw, Hell no!
I remember being taught slightly differently by the good sisters of mercy (ok the good part might be sarcasm and the mercy part too).
We were shown to open it to the middle first, then half way between the middle and back then between the middle and front. After that split the halves again.
To do otherwise was 4 decades in purgatory (ok maybe that was sarcasm too). If you just start at the front and work in as one does reading the book would cause the spine to be messed up for eternity.
