Thank you, Farm Dad! I thought it was a Schnauzer, but I wasn't sure. Do you know if they're indoor/outdoor, or mostly indoor? I miss my running buddy, Charlie, and really don't want anything too fussy or froufrou. I want a DOG.
I couldn't come up with a smartass comment because it's early and I'm still dripping coffee from my nose over Wirecutter's Word post. So My friends girlfriend has a mini Schauzer. Great dog with a heart as big as a whale.
Are they easy to train? I've never trained a puppy. We got Charlie full grown. Abandoned, starving and abused, she was as happy to have us as we were to have her. I didn't train her at all, she was just so smart. Dammit, now I'm crying again. I don't know if I'm ready for this.
My fear is that I'm going to hold this poor puppy to the impossibly high standard that Charlie set. I don't want to hate and resent a poor dog for something that isn't it's fault.
Sorry rpm, but I'm just not over Charlie. I'll get the little dog for the girls, though. They're ready and the more I research these little guys, the more they sound right for them.
I have l little poodle. One bad ass dog and wicked smart. I am still not over losing his father three years ago. We had both parents. The female was red, all the others were black. Dutchess had 11 puppies in two litters. She is gone too now. Duke, Duchess and Barron. Now you got me going... Terry Fla.
If you want a family dog... golden retriever. Would also recommend rhodesian ridgeback, we got one for my in-laws (they are bit difficult to train...). GEnerally, the terriers are very busy dogs (I've got 4 jack russels, the sweetest dogs, but VERY busy). Henk from South Africa

Miniature Schnauzer and point fact one would likely be ideal for your girls . Real sweet , loving dogs without being as hyper as most small breeds .

The Teen Queen's teacher offered us one of their dog's next litters, she's a mini schnauzer. I think we'll accept.

Schnauzer are also supposed to be good alarm dogs.

We had one for years. Awesome dogs. Be ready for grooming though.
Take the gift of the pup - it'll help heal your heart.
And they don't realize that they aren't Rottweilers.
