There's nothing like an old, battle-scarred warrior

Yep, my knees and hips are shot. I sound like a pop-corn popper starting up when I get out of bed every morning when I can sleep. I get shooting pains in my back were I have a couple vertebra fused. I wont go into the Desert Storm Rash that hits every time the temp drops into the freezing area.

My son and I were at the range one day. He had his targets alllll the way out at 30 yards, and I was practicing at around 10~12 yards.

He laughed at me and said "You'd never even get that close to me".

I looked at him over the top of my trifocals and said "You'd never know I was there".

His smug smile slowly disappeared.....

A few scars where I was shot with a shot gun, a couple from knives but the most interesting one is just above my right knee. I slipped while holding a running chain saw when I was 16. Dad just shook his head. Almost all of the rest I acquired in my years of working on cars and trucks. I even picked up some while I was driving those trucks. Someone might think I'm a klutz.

Reminds me of Pterry's Genghis Cohen character.

So true, and those of us who are from that time and place are, as I think you have posted previously, Angel, 'old for a reason' :)

This is where the custom of holding a door for a senior citizen comes from. The young soldier always held the door for the older more experienced soldier to go through first....because the older soldier knew what to expect when he got to the other side of that door! Hopefully, the younger soldier was paying attention as he followed behind.
