Well, if you can cover ~100 yards in less than 30 seconds, whilst he loads, gets the match on his matchlock smoldering, and lets rip. Given the lack of any accuracy past 50 yards or so, not to mention the lack of optics or peep sights, you should be good.
In other words, no need to bet he boop you back ...
maybe safer with wirecutter....before that finger can leave ol whitey's nose, he can be hangin on that wrist by his claws....but, cat claws are generally not as lethal as .50 cal balls.....
