Immigration: Then and Now

I have had this discussion ad nauseum with the Libs on HuffPo (yes I go there to rattle the monkeys' cages). There is a difference between LEGAL immigrants (which my ancestors were) and ILLEGAL immigrants (which my neighbors are). There is a difference between PRODUCTIVE immigrants and PARASITIC immigrants.

My family (both sides) came to America with skills and a desire to work and build. One side did not speak or read English, barely read in their native tongues (German, French), but they had carpentry and woodworking skills. And a desire to be productive and enjoy the fruits of their labors. The other side, Irish, also came with skills (and a killer whiskey recipe, they were run out of 3 Southern states for moonshining, still have the recipe and my uncle's family has the still). But the point is, immigrants once came to this country for the opportunities to build lives and fortunes, to live freely.

Now the immigrants, both illegal and legal, seem to be coming to America solely for the opportunity to live for free. And it's not bad enough that they aren't being discouraged in that endeavor, they are actively being COURTED by our government. There is a website, run by the government, directing immigrants (regardless of legal status) to the proper offices for assistance in obtaining government aid. Why? For what benefit? (That was a rhetorical question, I'm sure most of you know the answer).
