Not My TWINKIES!!!!

This is how seriously twisted we've become. 18000 people lose their jobs six weeks before Christmas because a union representing 5000 of them wouldn't make a deal. And the internet is abuzz with people freaking out over Twinkies, and Ding Dongs. Shit. This, of course, isn't a surprise to any of us who have been watching the destruction of American businesses by unions over the last few years; but it is very shocking to me that the focus is on losing a snack cake rather than the people hurt.

Unions had their place in history when the working class was predominantly uneducated, illiterate immigrants who had no power and no idea how to negotiate. There were no laws on the books at the time to protect workers, and the unions were vital to seeing that working conditions, hours and compensation were fair. Flash forward a hundred years and we have workers who are basically educated and literate (we'll talk about the public school scam another time) and protected by numerous laws and agencies. There is no need for unions in the American workplace, not in private companies and sure as hell not in the public sector.

Texas is a "right to work" state. Our workers are no worse off than their counterparts in heavily unionized states. The difference between us and them is our economy is among the strongest in the nation and our unemployment rate is one of the lowest. (Numbers just out for Amarillo unemployment is currently 5.5%, Texas 7.5% and the National rate 8.6*) Without the "help" of unions. It is time to seriously address the union problem.

*according to the Government, snort

Reminds me of the last day of Eastern Airlines. The day they closed the doors for good the idiots on the IAM were marching with signs that said "We Won". That was in the early 80's.
Mucking forons.

All for what, a pay cut? (who hasn't had at least one of those?) Well, 8% or whatever surely would have been better than the 100% you get now, huh?

I hope someone comes in, buys the brand and hires all non-union labor. Hell, I don't eat Hostess anything, but I'd go buy a box just to celebrate and help a non-union business.
